Coast Guard calls off search for Brookfield-registered plane after crash off shore of Virginia

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WSAU) -- Coast Guard officials have called off the search for a pilot whose plane crashed into the Atlantic off the coast of Virginia.

That plane left Waukesha on Saturday heading for Manassas, Virginia when it veered off its flight path and into restricted airspace over Washington DC. Fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the plane, and it was determined the pilot inside had lost consciousness. They then followed the plane until it eventually crashed in the waters of the Atlantic.

A civilian boat recovered a wheel and an engine cowling from the plane on Sunday morning, and the Coast Guard says that might be all that's left of the plane.

The plane had been registered to Ronald Hutchinson of Brookfield, but officials have not released the name of the person who was the pilot at this time.
