Brookings, SD (KWSN) - After helping the SDSU Baseball squad secure the #1 seed in the upcoming Summit League tournament, catcher Sam Pack was named the Summit League player of the week for the first time this season. The Senior from Newcastle, Oklahoma recorded two hits in all three games he played in during SDSU’s weekend series with NDSU. Overall, Pack hit .500 last week with two RBI and two runs scored.
Pack’s honor marks the 10th time a Jackrabbit has been named Summit League pitcher or player of the week. Previous position player honorees include infielder Al Robbins and outfielder Scott Splett. Pitchers Adam Bray, Chad Hodges, and Andrew Clemen have also received the award.
SDSU will now prepare for the 2014 Summit League baseball tournament, which will be held in Sioux Falls at the Birdcage starting on Thursday. Last year SDSU fell in their first game to Western Illinois before winning four consecutive games to take the championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA baseball tournament.
