Wisconsin gas prices last year at this time were a little higher than the national average, because of refinery maintenance issues.
The current statewide average is $3.59 a gallon, compared to $3.85 a year ago.
AAA Travel projects a little over 700,000 Wisconsin residents will journey 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend, that's a 1.1-percent increase from last year.
Triple-A defines the Memorial Day holiday travel period as this Thursday through Monday.
