Brewers handle Pirates without a fight

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 to open a three game series at Miller Park Tuesday night.  It was the first meeting between the teams since the Easter Sunday fight at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.   Niel Walker greeted Marco Estrada with a first inning, solo home run but Milwaukee grabbed the lead for good when Jonathan Lucroy singled home two runs in the third.  Rickie Weeks, Jean Segura and Mark Reynolds also knocked in runs.  Estrada (3-1) got the win working six innings with 8 strikeouts.  Will Smith gave up a run in the 8th but Francisco Rodriguez closed it out for his 16th save of the year.  Gerritt Cole took the loss.  He was the instigator in the brawl that led to Martin Maldanado's five game suspension.  Carlos Gomez is awaiting a ruling on his appeal of a three game suspension.  Gomez had to leave the game with a tight back and his status is day to day.  Wily Peralta will face Francisco Liriano in game two Wednesday night.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.

Aramis Ramirez was placed on the 15 day disabled list Tuesday with a hamstring injury. Ryan Braun came off the DL and was in the lineup Tuesday night.  The Brewers also recalled Elian Herrera and sent Caleb Gindle down to Triple A Nashville.
