HUDSON, WI (WTAQ) - A western Wisconsin businessman who's a former police officer now faces 14 felony charges of molesting young children and possessing child porn.

Authorities said 46-year-old Daniel Barber of North Hudson sometimes used Facebook and Craigslist to find parents of kids he could babysit. Sheriff John Shilts said Barber portrayed himself as a "knight in shining armor," occasionally offering to care for children of single parents with limited incomes.

Barber has pleaded not guilty to child sex assault and six child porn charges. Those counts were filed in February in the molesting of a six-year-old boy.

This week, seven more child sex assault counts were filed, alleging that Barber abused seven more youngsters -- including a pair of toddlers. The new cases date back to 2004.

Barber is due in St. Croix County Circuit Court May 19th for an initial appearance on the new charges, and a pre-trial conference on the other ones.
