WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ) - The woman accused of driving drunk almost two years ago and killing a teenager in Waupaca County made her first court appearance.
38-year-old Heather Schmidt appeared in court Friday. She's charged with two counts of felony homicide while driving under the influence.
On July 19, 2012, 18-year-old Dylan Thorne died in the crash on Highway E in the Town of St. Lawrence. Authorities say Schmidt's vehicle crossed the center line, and slammed into Thorne's vehicle head-on.
After the court appearance, Waupaca County District Attorney John Snider refused to answer questions about why it took so long to file charges in the case.
Schmidt was issued a $50,000 signature bond and is due back in court next month.
