Antetokounmpo's growth spurt could help Bucks draft

(WNFL)- While the Milwaukee Bucks try to figure out how their first-round draft choice will fit in, the team's top pick from a year ago is changing before the Bucks' very eyes. At his pre-draft news conference yesterday, general manager John Hammond mentioned a growth spurt by small forward Giannis Antetokounmpo -- and how it might open the door for him to become a power forward someday. The so-called "Greek freak" was 6-9 and 190 pounds when he first came to Milwaukee last fall, after playing as a point guard in his home country. Now, Hammond says Antetokounmpo is almost 6-11 and 217. That's right, 27 pounds heavier in just ten months. Hammond said many of the top picks in tomorrow night's N-B-A Draft are multi-position players -- and Antetokounmpo's flexibility could help whoever the Bucks take in the Number-two spot. Coach Larry Drew gave Giannis a ton of playing time in his rookie year, allowing him to grow as the Bucks waddled through a 15-and-67 campaign. Antetokounmpo played 19-hundred minutes in 77 games with 23 starts. He averaged seven points, four-and-a-half rebounds, and two assists in almost 25 minutes a night. Drew said he wants Giannis to get stronger in his second N-B-A season -- and to get quicker and more explosive.
