RIPON, WI (WTAQ) - Just over 850 Wisconsin high school juniors are learning first hand about the inner workings of state and local governments.
The 73rd annual Badger Boys State program began last Saturday, and it runs through this Saturday in Ripon. The boys take part in direct, hands on activities which resemble what their state and local leaders deal with on a daily basis.
They've already experienced the organizing of political parties. Mayors of 27 cities within the Boys State boundaries were elected by delegates Monday. They're also getting a feel for county governments, and the state's election process.
Their government will be in action on Friday, before the program wraps up on Saturday.
Badger Boys State is run by the American Legion, and Badger Girls State is run by the Legion's Auxiliary. That program takes place next week at UW-Oshkosh.
