EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WSAU) -- An Eau Claire area three-year-old was treated for exposure to methamphetamine. WEAU television reports the boy was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital after he showed behavior similar to a panic attack. Tests showed a positive exposure to the illegal drug.
Dr. Paul Horvath with Mayo Clinic Health System told reporters it is pretty rare to have a case like this in the Eau Claire area, but he has seen it before. Horvath said children getting into methamphetamine can be deadly, and that exposure to this drug is difficult to treat.
Eau Claire police are still investigating the incident. They say the child’s family has been cooperative. The child spent Monday night at the hospital, and was released to protective custody Tuesday.
