The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs played a blowout series this weekend at Miller Park. All three games were won decisively. Milwaukee took the opener 11-4 Friday night, the Cubs dominated the Saturday afternoon contest 8-0 and the Brewers responded with a big, 9-0 rout on Sunday afternoon. Kyle Lohse improved to 7-1 with a complete game, three hit shutout. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter, throwing an economical 93 pitches in the victory. Ryan Braun smacked a two run home run on the first pitch he saw in the first inning. Scooter Gennett also went deep and Lyle Overbay drove in three runs. Milwaukee chased Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija with five runs in the third. Baseball's earned run average leader fell to 1-5 on the year. Samardzija's ERA ballooned from 1.68 to 2.54. The Brewers (34-23) captured their third straight series and stretched their lead in the NL Central to four games over the St. Louis Cardinals who were shut out by the San Francisco Giants 8-0 on Sunday. Milwaukee opens a four game set with the Minnesota Twins Monday night at Miller Park. Matt Garza will throw the series opener. Two games will be played in Milwaukee and two at Target Field this week.
