MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The next CEO of Microsoft could be a UW-Milwaukee graduate.
Various media reports say Satya Nadella is one of the top contenders to replace Steve Ballmer -- who's expected to retire later this year.
Nadella earned a master's degree in computer science from UWM in 1990, and he received the Chancellor's Innovator Award from the Milwaukee school in 2013.
He's currently the executive vice president of Microsoft's cloud and enterprise division. It's in charge of Microsoft computing platforms, cloud services, and developers' tools.
The tech site ReCode.Net first reported Thursday that Nedella is a possible candidate as the new Microsoft CEO. Bloomberg News and Reuters confirmed it later.
Nadella is originally from Hyderabad India. The new CEO would be only the third in Microsoft's 38-year history, joining Ballmer and Bill Gates.
