River Falls woman starts over as fundraising efforts for children's park continues

MINNEAPOLIS (WTAQ) - A River Falls woman whose three daughters were killed by her ex-husband has re-married, and she expects another child in two months.

She's now Jessica Peterson. As she begins her new family, she continues to preserve the memories of Amara, Sophie, and Cecilia Schaffhausen by raising funds for a new park in their honor.

So far, about a quarter-million dollars has been donated -- and the goal is to raise another $300,000 for the new "Tri-Angels Playground."

The girls' father, Aaron Schaffhausen, is serving three life prison terms for the killings.

Petersen tells KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities that she'll always carry the pain of missing her daughters -- but she tries to do it in a way that would make them proud of her.

The campaign for the new playground was started a few months ago. Peterson says it will be accessible for all youngsters, and it will let people interact and make their own memories while keeping her memories' alive.

More fundraisers are planned, and Bremer Bank is matching all donations up to $50,000. She hopes the playground can be ready for use by the summer of next year.
