Walker staffer among parents unhappy with porn-viewing teacher's reinstatement

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker's deputy communications director was among the parents upset that Middleton teacher Andrew Harris is back in the classroom.

WKOW-TV said Julie Lund and another parent asked Walker to seek the revocation of Harris' teaching license -- after he was fired for viewing porn at school, and his union helped convince a state arbitrator to reinstate him.

Walker has asked state Superintendent Tony Evers to revoke Harris' license, under an immoral conduct clause. The Department of Public Instruction says it has the case under review, but has not commented further.

Walker spokesman Tom Evenson told WKOW that Lund raised her concerns to the governor, but she's not the reason the Republican Walker made his request.

Harris' attorney said his client was punished too harshly, after six other Middleton-Cross Plains also viewed porn at school and got lesser punishments. Harris returned to a middle school science class this week after the State Supreme Court refused to consider overturning his reinstatement.

WKOW also quoted what Lund wrote on Facebook about the matter recently. She blamed, "a system that puts what's best for teachers waaaay in front of what's best for students."

Walker said the case showed the need for his 2011 clampdown on public union bargaining.
