MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The controversial law that all but ended collective bargaining for most public workers in Wisconsin has affected one of the state’s biggest unions.

According to recent tax documents the combined income of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) dropped 45 percent in 2012. That was the first full year that Act 10 was in effect.

Union officials have been encouraged by the number of workers who have continued to pay voluntary dues, but say losses were to be expected. The AFSCME reported a combined income of $14.9 million in 2011. In 2012 that dropped to $8.3 million. Dues revenue dropped 40 percent to $7.1 million.
