More parking pay stations coming to downtown Appleton

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A pilot program changing the way people pay to park in downtown Appleton is being expanded.

On Wednesday night, the Appleton city council approved the purchase of three additional parking pay stations. They will be going to the library.

Back in 2012, Appleton began the program to remove old parking meters in Soldier's Square and replacing them with two pay stations.

The city's parking budget includes $46,500 for the purchase and installation of the pay stations. Two of them will be installed in the parking lot, with the third located just inside the front doors.

Officials say that much like in Soldier's Square, visitors to the library will soon park in a numbered spot, then walk to one of the pay stations to pay. Those stations accept change, dollar bills and pre-paid parking cards. In the future, the city could also accept credit cards at the stations.
