Skiles to speak at Experimental Aircraft Association Thursday

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WSAU) -- One of the two pilots famous for a successful crash landing in the Hudson River five years ago will be speaking in Oshkosh Thursday. Jeff Skiles was with Captain Chesley Sullenberger when the airplane struck a flock of geese after takeoff in New York City, and was forced to land on the river. There were no casualties, and over 150 people made it to safety.

U.S. Airways flight 1549 was taking off from LaGuardia Airport when it hit the birds, lost power, and was forced to land in the river January 15, 2009. The plane was supposed to go to Charlotte, North Carolina and then on to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Skiles is the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Vice President of Community and Member Programs, and will be speaking to the group.
