BARRON, Wis. (WSAU) -- An elderly woman was found dead Wednesday after apparently wandering away from an assisted living facility in Barron.
Barron Police Chief Byron Miller says they were called at 4:45 a.m. to Monroe Manor, where 76-year-old Juanita Toews had climbed out of her window. Searchers found her at 6:15 a.m. lying on an iced-over creek. Miller said she did not have any cold weather clothing on, and suspects she died of hypothermia.
The temperature was about 24 below zero when she went missing.
