PRESCOTT, WI (WTAQ) - A major distributor of natural and specialty foods will build a second distribution center in Wisconsin.
United Natural Foods Incorporated plans to start construction in May on a $38 million, 300,000 square foot facility in Prescott, just across the Mississippi River from Hastings Minnesota.
The Canadian firm also expects to open a 425,000 square foot warehouse in the Racine area this spring. Governor Scott Walker said United looked at other states before choosing Wisconsin.
The company's location specialist, Michael Mullis, is quoted in a Walker statement as citing Wisconsin's, "overall business friendly environment, and the ability of the state and city to respond quickly to the company's needs."
Prescott kicked in $6 million to provide land, site preparation, and infrastructure improvements. The firm is also eligible for $3.5 million in state tax credits over a four-year period.
Walker says the Prescott facility expects to have 314 new jobs within three years -- plus almost 200 jobs in the Racine warehouse.
