UNDATED (WSAU-Metro Source)  The new five-year Farm Bill will be signed by President Obama on Friday on the campus of Michigan State University following final passage yesterday by the U.S. Senate.

Wicosninsin's U.S. Senators split their votes. Democrat Tammy Baldwin voted 'yes'; Republican Ron Johnson voted 'no', hoping for lower subsidies for corporate farms and deeper food stamp cuts.

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Jim Holte is pleased with the new law in regards to dairy, calling it the "most significant reform to federal dairy policy in a generation."

The 2014 Farm Bill will allow dairy farmers to have the option of participating in a safety net program when milk prices are volatile and also prevents massive increases in milk prices. It took Congress three years and a one-year extension of the previous legislation to come to a compromise.
