ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WSAU) -- In an important men's hockey conference matchup the No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers tied No. 12 Michigan 2-2 on Saturday, but lost the shootout 3-2.
The back-and-forth game saw the Badgers (14-8-2, 5-3-1-0 conference) twice take a one-goal lead before allowing Michigan (12-6-3, 5-2-0-1 conference) to answer both times. Michael Mersch and Mark Zengerle scored to grab a 2-1 edge, but Michigan came back to tie, forcing a shootout. The Wolverines kept the Badgers off the board and handed Wisconsin their first ever Big Ten shootout loss.
The game goes down as a tie for NCAA purposes. The Badgers gain one point in the Big Ten standings with the tie, while Michigan gets two by taking the shootout.
