WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU-Wheeler News) -- A plane which had taken off from Waukesha drifted into restricted air space around the District of Columbia Saturday.
Fighter jets were scrambled and they confirmed that the pilot had lost consciousness. They stayed beside the plane until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. The pilot hasn’t been identified. The plane was reportedly headed for Manassas, Virginia.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane was registered to Ronald Hutchinson of Brookfield, but it hasn’t confirmed that he was at the controls. A Coast Guard helicopter could find no sign of the plane in the ocean. A Coast Guard C-130 and an 87-foot cutter also responded to conduct a search.
