Before the Milwaukee Brewers took the field in San Diego Tuesday night, they knew the Pittsburgh Pirates did them a favor by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2. The Brewers could have stretched their lead in the NL Central to two and a half games but Tyson Ross and the San Diego Padres still had a say in that. Ross, the only San Diego All-Star, delivered his 13th consecutive quality start in beating the Crew 4-1 at Petco Park. The only run came on a Scooter Gennett double in the 4th. Milwaukee had only five hits on the night. Jimmy Nelson (2-5) took the loss, giving up a solo home run in the first to Abraham Almonte. The Padres tacked on three more in the third thanks to an error. Milwaukee also had a chance for a big inning in the 4th but had two outs recorded on the basepaths. The Brewers (73-59) will close out the San Diego series with Yovani Gallardo on the hill. Pre-game coverage begins at 7:35 PM on WTAQ.
