Undated (KELO-AM) A great visionary of South Dakota golf, Mark Amundson, died Monday morning in an ATV accident, apparently at the Sutton Bay Golf Resort near Pierre he helped create. Amundsen was 55.
Sulley County authorities say Amundson wasa driving the ATV on Sutton Bay Trail, a private road, when he drifted off the road and overturned sometime after midnight.
Wade Merry, Executive Director of the South Dakota Golf Association says the nationally known Sutton Bay Resort on the Missouri River will be Amundson's legacy.
It wasn't just golf that made Amundson tick, it was giving. Executive Director of the Children's Home Society, Bill Colson says the Orion Golf Classic in Sioux Falls has helped raise millions for kids and it wouldn't have been possible without Amundson leading the way. In fact, the 19th annual classic completed earlier this month that Amundson was so involved in, will probably be a record breaker, says Colson.
Amundson grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. He had won 13 SDGA titles. He helped run the Orion Classic in Sioux Falls that raised money for the Children's Home Society. The 19th annual classic was held earlier this month.
