Hello Gerardo!

by

The  Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco gianst 4-3 to open a weeklong homestand at Miller Park Tuesday night and it was the newest Brewer who stepped into the hero's role.  Gerardo Parra, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks last week, made his first home appearance and came up with his first hit as a Brewer. It just happened to be a go ahead solo home run in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Parra also made a terrific catch in left field an inning later.    The Brewers grabbed an early lead against Tim Lincecum and Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson came up with a two out single and Carlos Gomez hit the next pitch over the left field wall for a two run homer.   Gomez pulled off a suprise in the 5th with a two out bunt single that brought home another run.   Nelson gave the lead up on one pitch in the sixth as Pablo Sandoval rocked a three run homer.   But Parra, playing for Khris Davis in left field, stepped up big iin the 7th.  Nelson worked seven for his second win and Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 33rd save, but not without some drama.   The Giants had a runner of first with two outs when Rickey Weeks fielded a ground balll and threw to first.  The runner was called safe and the San Francisco rally was on.   Manager Ron Roenicke came from the dugout to challenge the call and after a replay review, the runner was called out and the ballgame was over. Milwaukee (62-51) maintains a one game lead over St.Louis in the National League Central Division. Yovani Gallardo will face Ryan Vogelsong in game two of the series Wednesday night.  Pre-game coveage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.

Matt Garza was placed on the 15 day disabled list Tuesday because of an oblique muscle strain.  Rob Wooten was called up from AAA Nashville to take his roster spot.  The Brewers haven't announced who will take Garza's spot in the rotation.  His next scheduled start in Saturday against the Dodgers.   Marco Estrada is the likely candidate to come out of the bullpen.
