Banged up Brewers can't sweep Cubs

Chicago Cubs
Chicago Cubs

The shorthanded Milwaukee Brewers ended a Miller Park homestand on a sour note, getting shut out by the last place Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon 4-0.   Jason Hammel had a no hitter through five innings and worked 7 to improve to 4-1, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts.  Wily Peralta suffered his first loss of the season after three victories by giving up a pair of solo home runs to Starlin Castro.  The Brewers (18-7) still took two of three on the weekend and hold a four and a half game lead in the NL Central heading into a big series with second place St. Louis at Busch Stadium.  Milwaukee played without Martin Maldanado who finished the final game of his five game suspension from last weekend's fight in Pittsburgh.  Shortstop Jean Segura will be out for several more days after he was accidentally struck in the head by Ryan Braun on Saturday night.   Taking warm up swings near the dugout steps, Braun whacked Segura who was taken to the hospital.  He needed stitches to close a wound but apparently did not suffer a concussion.  Braun also sat out Sunday's game with what was described as a right intercoastal strain.  Manager Ron Roenicke says Braun may miss the next several days.   Milwaukee will send Yovani Gallardo against Michael Wacha in the series opener in St. Louis Monday night.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6;40 PM on WTAQ.
