MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- the Department of Natural Resources has issued the spring walleye bag limits and the list of lakes with restrictions.
DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp announced there will be a one walleye limit on 173 northern Wisconsin lakes due to the number of fish sought by the Chippewa tribes. This is a normal process, and Stepp says the bag limits will be adjusted upward after the spearing season is over.
The Secretary anticipates less pressure on the walleye in future years, as they are working with private, tribal, and state hatcheries to produce more walleye for stocking through the Wisconsin Walleye Initiative.
Stepp is confident that these long-term efforts will yield less fluctuation and more consistency with bag limits while effectively managing and protecting the resource.
The full list of walleye bag limits by county and lake is available at the DNR’s website.
