Brewers fight through Pittsburgh

The Milwaukee Brewers outlasted the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in 14 innings Sunday at PNC Park in a game that featured a bench clearing brawl and three ejections.   In the third inning, Carlos Gomez lifted a long fly ball to centerfield.  He flipped his bat at the plate and when he realized it wasn't a home run, he sprinted to third where Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole had some words for him.   Gomez charged after Cole and players rushed onto the field.  Before order was restored, Gomez, Travis Snider of the Pirates and Brewers bench coach Jerry Narron were ejected.   As for the game, Cole and Marco Estrada were locked in a duel with the Pirates leading 1-0 into the 8th.  Mark Reynolds took Cole deep to tie the game in the top of the 8th but Pittsburgh answered with a go ahead run in the bottom half.   In the 9th, Ryan Braun tied the score at 2 with another home run off Pirates closer Jason Grilli.  On Saturday night, Braun's two run homer in the top of the 9th off Grilli gave the Brewers an 8-7 victory.  Milwaukee stranded five runners in the extra innings until Khris Davis led off the top of the 14th with his first home run of the year of Jeanmar Gomez.   Francisco Rodriguez gave up a hit in the bottom of the frame but worked out of it for his 7th save of the season. Zach Duke got the win in relief.   The Brewers wound up taking three out of four against the Pirates and are now 9-1 on the road this season.   They return home to face the San Diego Padres with Wily Peralta on the mound Monday night at Miller Park.  Pre-Game coverage begins ta 5:35 PM on WTAQ.

The Brewers placed Logan Schafer on the 15 day disabled list with a hamstring injury.  Lyle Overbay was recalled off paternity leave on Sunday after his wife gave birth to their fifth child last week.  Ellian Herrera will remain on the 25 man roster in the time being.
