Brewers pen rocked by Pirates

The Milwaukee Brewers won 10 of their first 12 games in large part because Manager Ron Roenicke's bullpen was pitching lights out.   The Pittsburgh Pirates knocked the lights of relief pitchers Thursday night in the first of a four game series at PNC Park winning 11-2.   There was a little action early and a lot late as the Brewers lost their fourth game in their last five starts.    Aramis Ramirez drove in Carlos Gomez with a single in the first inning to give Yovanni Gallardo the lead.   The Brewer ace gave it right back when reigning MVP Andrew McCutcheon swatted a two run homer in the bottom of the first.   Jonathan Lucroy got it back even with a single that scored Ryan Braun in the third.   Both Gallardo and Pittsburgh starter Edinson Volquez settled down from there.   When Gallardo's pitch count hit 114 after 6 innings, Roenicke turned to his pen.   Rob Wooten was greeted with a two run homer from Josh Harrison as the Pirates scored three in the 7th.   Rule 5 draft pick Wei-Chung Wang entered in the 8th and got shelled for six runs.   Gaby Sanchez went deep and Pedro Alvarez ripped a three run homer to cap the big offensive night for the home team.  Milwaukee (11-5) remains on top of the NL Central by one game over St. Louis which shut out Washington 8-0 behind Adam Wainright's complete game, two hitter.   The Brewers will send Kyle Lohse against Charlie Morton in game two of the series Friday night.  Pre-Game coverage begins at 5;30 PM on WTAQ.

Lyle Overbay was placed on paternity leave by the Brewers after his wife delivered the couple's fifth child.   Overbay is expected to miss a couple of games and return to the club by Sunday.  Ellian Herrera was called up from Triple A Nashville to take his place during the Pittsburgh series.
