Mine area public access bill not on Senate agenda for Tuesday

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - It appears that the Wisconsin Senate is holding up a bill to cut off public access to recreational land at the proposed Gogebic Taconite iron ore mine.

The measure was on the fast track earlier this month, as a public hearing and committee approval took place within just a day of each other.

But the measure is not on the Senate's agenda for its floor session Tuesday.

The bill would provide an exemption from the state's managed forest program, in which landowners get tax breaks for opening their lands to things like hunting and fishing.
