Woman charged with concealing baby's death, throwing body in dumpster

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - A Wausau woman is in jail for allegedly throwing her baby in the garbage. 33-year-old Zoua Yang made an initial appearance on charges of concealing the death of a child and bail jumping Tuesday. She is being held on a $1,000 cash bond in the Marathon County Jail.

She allegedly gave birth to a child on Thursday, October 10th in her bathroom. Yang claimed she didn’t know she was pregnant, and the newborn didn’t cry or show signs of life when born. Investigators claim Yang made no effort to get medical help for the infant. She told investigators through an interpreter she had no health insurance.

A witness claims Yang put the baby’s body in a plastic bag and placed it in a dumpster. Investigators were unable to recover the baby’s body from the Marathon County landfill.

Yang will be back in court for a pretrial conference November 4th, and then before Judge Greg Huber for a preliminary hearing November 6th.
