State Senate Dems may get behind property tax cut despite timing

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - It appears that minority Democrats in the Wisconsin Senate will vote in favor of Governor Scott Walker's proposed $100 million property tax cut.

The Legislature's Joint Finance Committee is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the measure Tuesday.

Senators are expected to vote on it the same day. An Assembly vote is due on Thursday.

Walker and his Republican legislative majority unveiled the tax cut last week. It would cut the average local tax bill by $13 in December. The following year's taxes would go up by an average of $11, or around $20 less than before the GOP tax cut was introduced late last week.

Democrats says the timing of the measure is, "purely politics." It came out 3 days after Mary Burke announced her candidacy for governor next year as a Democrat.
