MARION, Wis. (WSAU) --
Two people were hospitalized after a drunk driver collided with a horse and buggy near Marion.
The crash happened at 6:42 p.m. Thanksgiving night on Highway G in the Shawano County Town of Grant, just north of Gollnow Road. Both vehicles were southbound, and the car struck the rear of the buggy. There is a 55 mile per hour speed limit in this area.
Shawano County Sheriff’s deputy Jess Hoffman was at the scene. He says the buggy did have tail lights, as they located two L-E-D lights in the wreckage. He says the buggy is now “just splinters” and is not repairable. The horse received a cut on the leg, but is able to walk and will recover.
The driver of the car is a 38-year-old Hortonville man. He was arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence - third offense. The driver’s name will be released after charges are filed.
The 23-year old man and 21-year-old woman riding in the buggy do not have life-threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.
