APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Signal lights along a six block stretch of College Avenue in Grand Chute and Appleton are getting a facelift with the goal of increasing visibility and reducing crashes.
The stop lights between Highway 41 and Perkins Street are getting yellow reflective strips placed around their borders.
300 crashes have occurred on that stretch, 100 alone at Westhill Boulevard alone.
WisDOT Traffic Engineer Bob Schuurmans says the project is part of a three year study to see if the reflective strips increase visibility and reduce crashes.
College Avenue is becoming a distraction for drivers with billboards and bright LED signs, many right in the sight of traffic signals.
