GORDON, WI (WSAU) - The Germann Road Fire is 100% contained. That’s according the Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources. The DNR has calculated the total burned area is 8,131 acres and may be adjusted after crews gain access to some areas and maps are corrected.
The evacuation order has been lifted. Public roads are open again, and power is turned on where possible. No injuries have been reported from firefighters or residents.
Department of Natural Resources officials confirm the fire started from logging equipment, but they couldn’t be specific.
Residents have access to a special telephone hotline to access The hotline phone number for residents of the fire zone will close at 10:30 p.m. Friday. Additional assistance calls can go to the DNR’s Brule Ranger Station between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 715-372-4866.
Cooler temperatures, lighter winds, and some precipitation this weekend will be welcome as crews continue to deal with hot spots. Burning permits are still suspended, and will be until conditions are safer.
