GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A major traffic warning for drivers in the Green Bay area this weekend.
The northbound lanes of Highway 41 between Shawano Avenue and Velp Avenue are now closed. Workers barricaded entrances for that part of the highway on Friday night about 8 p.m.
The issue that needs to be fixed is almost 30 feet underground. Two months ago, a drill hit what officials say is a major obstruction. They say two drills became stuck in the process, and now need to be pulled out the old fashioned way.
There are a couple detour routes. For in-town drivers, the DOT recommends Shawano to Military to Velp.
The DOT hopes longer-distance drivers will take a longer detour, taking Highway 172 east to Interstate 43 and then at the north end of 43 back on 41 north.
If all goes according to plan, this part of the highway should reopen Monday at 5 a.m.
