MADISON, WI (WSAU) - Would you like to become a warden’s helper? The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is looking for people to work as sturgeon guards.
Volunteers are needed to guard sturgeon as the fish begin their annual spawning run up the Wolf River from late March and early May. The DNR is concerned about the fish, because lake sturgeon gather in such large numbers, making them susceptible to people wading in the water to grab them or netting them from a boat.
Sturgeon guard volunteers would observe, collect information and call a warden. There’s information about the program posted on the DNR’s website.
