The Notre Dame Tritons got defensive in winning the second state title in school history tonight at the Resch Center, beating New Berlin Eisenhower 42-33 to capture the Division 2 Championship. The hard fought game was tied at 28 early in the 4th Quarter but the Tritons outscored the Lions 14-5 the rest of the way. Sabrina Rapisarda knocked down four free throws, Annika Johnson and Brianna Byrne both got layups against pressure defense and the Tritons would have allowed only six fourth quarter points if not for a meaningless shot at the horn. With leading scorer Allison LeClaire struggling offensively, head coach Sara Rhode had others step up. Johnson led the way with 11, Byrne scored 10 and Eliza Campbell added 7. Defensively, the forwards gave up 7 first quarter points to Eisenhower's leading scorer Jenny Weiland, but she managed only five the rest of the night. New Berlin was held to 27,7 percent shooting. The Tritons allowed just 68 points in the two games this weekend as they have a bookend to the 2001 State Championship trophy.
