The Algoma Wolves are the state Division 4 girls basketball champions. Before a huge Resch Center crowd, Algoma defeated Colfax 46-30 to capture the third state title in school history, the first in 23 years. Dealing with early foul trouble and leading by just 22-20 at the half, the Wolves opened the third quarter with a 12-3 run and the defense shut down the Vikings the rest of the way. Algoma gave up only 3 points in the third and 10 in the entire second half. Junior Kennedly Blahnik led the way with 17 points as Colfax was intent on taking away senior guard Taylor Schmidt, Schmidt was held scoreless in the first half but scored seven down the stretch. Baleigh Deloirt came off the bench to deliver 9 points. Algoma finished the season 26-2 and will add the gold ball to a trophy case that also includes state championship trophies from 1981 and 1986.
