Packers in Jackson sweepstakes

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly in discussion with former St. Louis Rams running back Stephen Jackson.  The report says the Packers are considering a three year contract offer for the 29 year old running back who has produced a thousand yards or more in each of the past eight seasons.  The Atlanta Falcons are also interested in Jackson.  He could be the most expensive running back on the free agent market.  Wednesday, Reggie Bush signed a four year deal worth about 16 million dollars with the Detroit Lions.   Rashard Mendenhall left the Steelers for Arizona on a deal averaging just over two million a season.   As for wide receiver Greg Jennings, he will visit the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday according to ESPN's Adam Shefter.  The Packers may also be in the mix to bring Jennings back after the market for wide receivers began to soften.  Wes Welker signed with Denver for two years and 12 million while Danny Amendola will join the Patriots on a contract that averages 6.2 million per year, far less than the 12 million dollar a year deal Jennings was seeking.  If the Packers sign both Jackson and Jennings, they may be squeezed tight to the salary cap and restructured deals may be looming for the likes of A.J. Hawk and Jermichael Finley or GM Ted Thompson may be forced to release players to make room.
