HUDSON, WI (WTAQ) - A 60-year-old western Wisconsin man is waiting to be extradited from neighboring Minnesota, after he escaped police by driving across the frozen St. Croix River.

It all started early Sunday when a police officer in North Hudson saw the man asleep in his car, as loud music was blaring from his stereo. The officer discovered that the man was aggressive toward Polk County deputies on Saturday night – so a group of officers waited for an hour for the man to leave his car, but he wouldn’t.

When they went inside to nab him, the driver backed up, hit a squad car, escaped another squad, and drove off.

A chase ensued at up to 70 miles an hour before the man drove onto the St. Croix River and turned off his lights. That ended the chase.

But a few hours later, a deputy found the man’s car at a house in Lakeland Minnesota where he was arrested.
