BIRCHWOOD, Wis. (WSAU) -- Some estate sales can be a blast. One in the northwestern community of Birchwood really could have been dangerous.
Washburn County Sheriff Terry Dryden says the executor of a man’s estate was searching for items to sell when he discovered about forty pounds of dynamite hidden under the floorboards of a metal storage shed. The shed was not very far from the house. Nobody knows why the man had the explosives.
Nearby homes were evacuated while experts removed thirty two-pound sticks of the explosives and took them to the village gravel pit to safely detonate them.
