MADISON, Wis (WRN) Governor Scott Walker says Wisconsin will have a new budget by July 1st.Speaking in Eau Claire just hours after the senate passed the state budget, the governor wouldn’t say what, if anything, he’ll take out with his line-item veto.
Critics of expanding private school vouchers say one amendment contains a loophole allowing private schools in Milwaukee and Racine to take unlimited students from all over the state. Walker said the wording of that measure may need some “tweaking.”
Walker said he and his staff will spend the next weekor so looking at every item “with a fine tooth comb.” He said items that are not budget-related, or were not included in his proposed budget, like the return of bail bondsmen, will get extra scrutiny. “I think all in all it’s a very positive budget.”
