HUDSON, WI (WTAQ) - Folks in northwest Wisconsin and Upper Michigan should not be alarmed if they hear a helicopter close by.
Xcel Energy says it will use choppers to inspect electric transmission lines starting on Monday.
Xcel maintains over 2,400 transmission lines in western and northwest Wisconsin and the UP.
The utility says its helicopters will fly within 50 feet of the power lines – and they’ll get closer to a structure if they believe it needs a more detailed inspection.
All the flights will take place during daylight hours.
Xcel says it will help identify potential problems before they can take place.
