GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The owners of a Green Bay liquor store learned their fate Thursday after being convicted of welfare fraud.
A Brown County judge sentenced Gurnek and Gurdeep Basanti to six months in jail each, followed by two years probation.
The couple allowed people to use Quest cards to buy items other than food.
The cards allow qualified low-income residents to buy food under the county's Food Share program.
Police say the couple charged double the regular price for liquor and tobacco.
The business, Beach Road Liquor, lost its liquor license, and the Basantis renamed it Dollar Land.
