HUDSON, WI (WTAQ) - A northwest Wisconsin man killed in a boating accident on the St. Croix River is identified as 40-year-old David Riley of New Richmond.
Authorities said he was a passenger on a boat that struck a rock face.
It happened about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix south of Hudson near the Kinnickinnic State Park beach.
The boat’s owner and apparent operator, 46-year-old Patrick Puhalla of Bayport Minnesota, suffered non-life threatening injuries, along with another passenger from Hudson.
Both were taken to Regions’ Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota.
Pierce County sheriff’s officials said the boaters were on a pleasure ride from Prescott Wisconsin to Afton Minnesota when the crash occurred. The cause remains under investigation.
Officials said it was extremely dark, and a lack of moonlight might have been a factor.
Riley was the harbor-master at the Windmill Marina in Afton.
