STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Door County's Highway Commissioner is calling for improvements to the Sturgeon Bay Bridge along Michigan Street after the front end of a Florida couple’s motor home was crushed.
The driver halted moving across the lifting span because of heavy traffic ahead but did not clear the lift bridge’s counterweight.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation contracts to operate the bridge via remote using video cameras from the Maple-Oregon Street Bridge two blocks away.
The Florida couple escaped without injury.
The commissioner says, “everything was done procedurally correct.”
