LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) - A search continued at mid-day for a missing crew member from a tugboat that flipped over the roller gates on a Mississippi River dam just northwest of La Crosse.
The incident was reported around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday on the Minnesota side of the river at Lock and Dam Number 7 at Dresbach.
Three people were aboard the tugboat, and all were wearing life-jackets. Two made it to safety, and were treated at a La Crosse hospital for minor injuries.
Dave Brand, the sheriff of Winona County Minnesota, said the missing person was in the boat’s middle deck. Brand said the boat lost power before going over the dam’s roller gates.
The boat hit the water on its side. As of mid-morning, rescuers were waiting for a diver from the tugboat’s owner before going inside.
At that point, Brand said it was too dangerous for outsiders to enter.
The Dresbach Dam is the same place where 11 people were rescued in late May, when a rented houseboat swept over the roller gates and capsized.
In 2007, four people drowned there in a boating accident.
