Big winter storm arrives in Northeast Wisconsin

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of Northeast Wisconsin.

FOX 11 reports snow will become heavier late Wednesday morning into early afternoon. Some areas could get up to 1" of snow per hour.

Just under two inches had fallen in Green Bay and the Fox Valley.

Five inches fell by mid-morning at Beetown in Grant County. Steuben in Crawford County had 4.5, and Platteville had 4 inches.

Mauston had about 3.5, and the Madison area picked up 2.5 early on.

Snow will accumulate 5 to 8 inches in most areas by this afternoon.

The temperature will fall throughout the day to the low 20s by 5 pm and northwest winds will pick up at 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts resulting in blowing snow.

Travel conditions will deteriorate all day. Please allow yourself extra time if you must drive Wednesday and slow down.

An arctic blast will drop high temperatures to the low teens on Thursday. Friday it looks like we don't even escape the single digits.
