DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - St. Norbert College has been stepping up to help the St. John’s Homeless shelter.
The downtown Green Bay homeless shelter has been transporting its overflow residents to campus gym that is not in use right now because students are on winter break.
The shelter has been cited for being over their approved permitted capacity since Dec. 21st.
Rev. Jay Fostner says the temporary fix is available until students return January 22nd.
Fostner says “as a Catholic intuition, we feel it’s our duty to invite these guests to our campus.”
Meanwhile, the shelter is incurring extra costs of between $300 to $350 every night because of transportation and extra staff. But that’s less than potential violations of upwards of $500 a night for going over capacity.
