22nd ranked Marquette defeated 12th ranked Syracuse 74-71 at the Bradley Center Monday, the 24th straight home win for the Golden Eagles. Devonte Gardner led the way with a career high 26 points and 8 rebounds. Gardner shot seven for seven from the floor and hit 12 of 13 free throws. The Orangemen went on a 15-2 run midway through the first half to build and 11 point lead but Marquette closed the gap to three by intermission. Gardner took over in the second half as Marquette praded to the line, hitting 29 of 35 free throws compared to just five of seven for Syracuse. Marquette improves to 20-7 overall and 11-4 in the Big East conference, tied for second with Louisville, just a half game behind Georgetown. Next up is a date with 21st ranked Notre Dame at home on Saturday.
